For exf f., Madrid-based filmmaker Álvaro Feldman has put together a program of his own works, which the director will present in person on Saturday. During his studies, Feldman began to explore the possibilities of analog film production and developed a fascination for the handmade aspect (developing, editing, printing) of working with film material. He currently teaches at LAV Madrid and coordinates Acme obscura, the first laboratory in Madrid dedicated to film work. La tarara (2021) is the title of a diary and portrait film that grows continuously with each visit to Seville. Soleares para el Popeye (2022) combines the artist's own footage with found footage elements as well as text passages that are superimposed and rhythmically edited.

Using masks, multiple exposures and projections, Diorama (2023) creates a kind of self-portrait of a film at the moment of its creation – a wonderful play of geometric shapes and colors that at the same time focuses on the technical manipulations of the Super 8 cassette. Torontontero (2023) was made during a residency at the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers (LIFT) in Canada: The 16mm film manipulates various shots of Toronto using multiple exposures, as well as contact and optical printing. Finally, in Aka y Rita (2023), thanks to a double projection of Super 8 and 16mm footage, two greyhounds will appear on screen in our cinema.

My films are born at the crossroads between the possibilities and limitations that film techniques evoke when searching ways to approach the everyday or ordinary and at the same time, the extraordinary enabled by the very mechanisms of cinema. The work I am excited to share at exf f. is the continuation of a series of emotions, intuitions, obsessions and ideas that have been latent and reappearing until now. My intention, beyond understanding them as a body of work, is wishing that some of these moments and movements will resonate in those who see them for a little while. (A.F.)
